What Is The Windows Catalog?

What is the Windows Catalog?

Microsoft maintains a database called the Windows Catalog which basically lists devices that Microsoft has tested and supports for use with Windows Operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000.

If a certain device in the computer is not listed in the catalog, Microsoft does not technically support it. However you can always contact the device's manufacturer to determine whether the manufacturer provides drivers and support for the device under a particular version of Windows.  Check the manufacturer’s website or even give them a call if preferred.

Do note that even if the manufacturer supports the device, there is no guarantee that it will function correctly in a particular Windows version if not listed in the Windows Catalog.
